Online Colleges: A Pace Above Traditional School

By: Rachel Call

Obtaining a degree online has benefits. People who may not have had a way to receive a college degree coming from a more traditional school will discover an internet based college advantageous. For those with families or full-time jobs, attending classes on a campus might be difficult or perhaps impossible to accomplish. Online learning enables the non-traditional student the opportunity to achieve the degree they seek. Another negative factor to some students may be the price of traditional colleges. Many online schools offer affordable opportunities to obtain a higher education.
The advantages online colleges are substantial.

Online schools provide flexible scheduling. Some online colleges offer online college courses which are accelerated programs. These programs enable you to do more studying within a shorter time period. This enables the online school to support you in completing your studies a lot more quickly. The online college education costs are reduced by simply not having to drive to campus on a daily basis and the lower cost of book expenses. Many online courses provide their materials located online.

Online college was previously just correspondence school on your screen. It was heavy on writing and reading. The online college education offered not much when it comes to interactive learning or teacher feedback. Today’s online college courses look nothing like they did even a couple of years ago. There some studies that suggest they surpass traditional education.

A 2009 study, Evaluation of Evidence-Based Practices in Online Learning: A Meta-Analysis and Review of Online Learning Studies, released by the U.S. Department of Education, found that on average, students enrolled in online school performed better than those in a traditional college setting.

The studies suggested that online college courses give you a longer period for learning than regular college courses. In traditional schools, you are in the classroom for certain amount of time, whereas in an online course, you can view your video lectures more than once. You can spend all the time as you need to soak up your online course.

Online courses are as varied as the traditional setting. American Intercontinental University offers degrees in business administration, criminal justice, education, information technology and visual communication. The courses are offered by conventional schools as well. Ashford University offers business courses, criminal justice, education, health care, information technology and trade skills. While at Colorado Technical University, you can earn your associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree. Everest University Online offers criminal justice, homeland security, business administration, paralegal and several other degree programs. Everest University students participated in a report and stated that they took classes online using the online university due to the school’s noteworthy accreditation, career-focused curriculum, career placement services for their graduates, and the faculty's reputation. Kaplan University Online offers courses in arts and sciences, criminal justice, business, health sciences, education, information technology, legal studies, law, and even nursing.

Online education has helped millions of people, that normally would not be in a position to attend college, transform their lives. Before online learning became accessible, factors like employment, family situations, geographical isolation, and physical challenges stopped a lot of people from educating themselves even further. Online colleges assist the older student or the student with prior commitments keep their education current. Online students have the flexibility of dictating their own individual schedules, still receiving government aid, and perhaps receiving a better education than a traditional student.

The price can vary widely. You can find colleges that provide classes for $105 per credit hour. This is significantly more reasonable than even a traditional college. Another key to online college costs is the utilization of the web. Most colleges will allow you to access your materials online. If you're able to do it using this method then gone will be the need for the purchasing of books. Remember that you won't need to drive to college and back every day. This reduces your transportation costs.

Many individuals stress about interaction with their teachers. When you choose online schools your teacher will be able to provide a more one-on-one learning experience. An online school won't have the same distractions that the traditional school will. The most important thing to keep in mind is if you do your research, imagine your ending goal and commit to your education you are going to succeed.
